A house for Henry

Living on his disability income and by himself, Henry needed a home to replace the one he lost in Hurricane Katrina. His neighbors encouraged him to apply for rebuilding assistance so he could leave the decaying cottage where he lived for nearly five years following the storm. While small, the new house has high ceilings, an open porch, and strategically placed windows that create a sense of volume and openness. With an efficient design, the house budget allowed for a second bedroom, so a relative or caretaker can stay with Henry as necessary. The large, well-shaded porch is the most important space for Henry, who sits and chats with his friends and neighbors.
