Goodbye to Gustav

Back home after two days in a Red Cross shelter, I’m fine, and so is everyone that I’ve heard from. The damage, luckily, seems to be minimal here in Biloxi. I’m too spaced out to write much now, but here are the basics:

I stayed with about half of Hands On Gulf Coast at a Red Cross shelter in Stennis Space Center, a huge complex on the west end of the Mississippi Gulf Coast (Stennis is where they build space shuttle engines and parts).
I’m ready for some hot food that doesn’t come in a little can. The Red Cross was very good to us but volunteering for them was a little exhausting. More on that later.
Looks like Biloxi got wind, rain, a few downed branches, but only a little flooding. Houses are mostly fine; Patty’s lost a little of the plastic breezeway roofing, which we were more or less expecting. The Coordination Center is in a low area, but it’s completely dry.
People are on their way back. Some businesses are open and we may have our office up and running by tomorrow.

At least everyone has a chance to take a breath. However, with Hanna, Ike, and Josephine still out there, we’ll have to keep on our toes.
